What is the FBI Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list?
The FBI's highest-profile programme, launched on 14 March 1950, spotlighting the ten federal fugitives considered the bureau's top priorities at any given time.
History
The list was launched in 1950 after a reporter asked the FBI for names of its 'toughest guys'. It has since featured more than 500 fugitives, the vast majority of whom have been captured.
How subjects are added
A new fugitive is added only when a vacancy opens — typically when someone on the list is captured or charges are dropped. FBI field offices nominate candidates; a panel at FBI HQ reviews and the Director approves.
Rewards
Most Top Ten subjects have a standing FBI reward of up to $100,000 for information leading directly to arrest. Higher rewards are sometimes offered by the Department of State's Rewards for Justice programme.
